1. In June a baseball team that played 60 games had won 30% of its games played . After a phenomenal winning streak this team raised its average to 50% . How many games must the team have won in a row to attain this average?

  • A. 30
  • B. 30
  • C. 30
  • D. 30

Answer: Option D

Explanation:

First find 30% of 60=18.

Now you know the team won the next x games, so the number won is 18+x.

The team’s average now is 50%, so find 50% of the new number of games, i.e. 60+x games.

The number won=50% of games played so we get:

18+x=(60+x)/2

Solving this, we find x=24, so they have to win 24 games in a row.
