1. The preduct of two consecutive negative ever integers is 24. What is the larger number ?
- A. -4
- B. -4
- C. -4
- D. -4
Answer: Option A
Explanation:
Let two consecutive negetive even numbers -2n and - 2(n+1)
According to to the question we can write that,
(-2n)×{-2(n+1)}=24
Or, - 2n(-2n-2)=24
Or, 4n^2+4n=24
Or, 4(n^2+n)=24
Or, n^2+n=24/4
Or, n^2+n=6
Or, n^2+n-6=0
Or, n^2+3n-2n-6=0
Or, n(n+3)-2(n+3)=0
Or,(n+3)=0 or, (n-2)=0
Or, n=-3 [which is not acceptable]
And n=2
Then, As the first negative even integer is -2n= -2×2= -4
And -2(n+1)=-6
Larger number is - 4 between them.
