1. Out of two numbers, 4 times the smaller one is less than 3 times the larger one by 5, if the sum of the numbers is larger than 6 times their difference by 6, find the two numbers

  • A. 55 and 58
  • B. 55 and 58
  • C. 55 and 58
  • D. 55 and 58

Answer: Option C

Explanation:

Let, Smaller number be x and larger be x

and larger number y

ATQ, 4x = 3y - 5

= > 4x - 3y = - 5 .............(i)

And, x + y = 6 (y - x) + 6

= > x + y - 6y + 6x = 6

= > 7x - 5y = 6 ..........(ii)

(i) × 5 - (ii) × 3

= x = - 43

 ∴x = 43

From (i) 4 × 43 - 3y = - 5

= > - 3y = - 5 - 172 = - 177

∴y = (177/3)

    = 59

∴(y,x) = (59,43) (Ans) .
