1. A student first reduced a number by 20 percent and then increased it again by 20 percent. If the difference between the two new numbers was 8, then what is the original number?

  • A. 40
  • B. 40
  • C. 40
  • D. 40

Answer: Option B

Explanation:

Suppose, Total marks = 100

20% reduced = 80

Then, 20% increased = 80 + 80 of 20% = 96

Difference = 100 - 96 = 4

4 difference then orginal number = 100

8 difference then orginal number = (100×8)/4

                                                = 200

20% increased = 96%

Difference between two new number=  96-80 = 16

Difference is 16 when the original number is 100

 ,,            ,,   8   ,,      ,,   = 50

Answer : 50
