The Inauguration of the Dhaka Metro Rail

In a landmark event for Bangladesh’s transportation sector, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially inaugurated the Dhaka Metro Rail on December 28, 2022, at the Diabari Depot in Uttara. This historic moment marks the beginning of a new era in public transport for the capital city, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and enhance urban mobility.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by ministers, government officials, engineers, and enthusiastic citizens. The Prime Minister expressed pride in the nation's achievement and highlighted the Metro Rail as a symbol of Bangladesh's rapid progress in infrastructure development.
The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line-6, stretching from Uttara to Motijheel, is the first of its kind in the country. The initial phase, from Uttara North to Agargaon, became operational first. The full line, once completed, will cover approximately 20.1 kilometers with 16 stations, serving thousands of commuters daily.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the metro rail promises fast, safe, and eco-friendly transport. It will significantly cut travel time, improve traffic conditions, and reduce pollution in the city.
